Stand Up Paddling (or SUP for short) is taking the world by storm. It is not only the fastest growing water sport - but also the fastest growing sport in the world.
Store owner Warren has been paddling modern SUP boards since 2007 and was standing on sailboards with a paddle since he was a kid.

Now that the weather has finally warmed up and the ice on the lakes has melted – we are ready for our outdoor Stand Up Paddleboard Race and Demo Series.
There are four events in June and July – all on Tuesday nights.
The Races are short, fun, recreational and open to anyone that owns a SUP board.
The Demos follow the races and are open to everyone. We provide the boards, paddles and a lesson.
Cost for either the Race or the SUP Demo is $10. per person.
Registration for both events each night is at 6:30 PM.
The SUP Race starts at 7:00 PM and the Demo follows from 7:30 to 8:30 PM
Please contact the store the day of the race and demo to confirm that it will take place – only thunder storms will cancel the event.

We have received the very first Starboard Astro (inflatable) Race boards.
They come in 12’6″ x 26″ and in 14′ x 26″
They are ultra light – weighing in at under 20 lbs each.
If you want to go fast . . . and travel / have a very small car / live in an apartment / have storage concerns / etc. then these are the boards for you.
I paddled prototypes of these boards last fall in Spain at the Starboard Dealer Meetings – and they are rockets!

The Easy Rider has finished its indoor Stand Up Paddle demos season.
A big Thanks to everyone who made it out to try out the fantastic sport of SUP.
From January through May we had over 250 people try Stand Up Paddling in the comfort of inside the West Edmonton Mall Waterpark.
We now move outdoors for June / July and August. Watch this site for the dates and times for our next demo.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN at The Easy Rider.
Easy Rider is super stoked to be bringing you the first ever “Battle of the Paddle” style Stand Up Paddleboard race.
It will be on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Lake Summerside in south Edmonton.
Battle of the Paddle style races involve a beach start, turns around buoys, and are multiple laps.
We will be having 2 events – an Elite Race that will involve a short beach run after every lap and an Open Division race that will feature a water start, a few laps around the course and then a beach finish.
Entry is $25. per person and will include an event T-Shirt and entry into the draw prizes.
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN at The Easy Rider.
Race day registration will be from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM – PLEASE register in the store if you can – to make it easier on us to plan the event.
The Open Race will start at 1:30 PM and will be approximately 2 km.
The Elite Race will start shortly after the finish of the Open Race and will be approximately 5 km.
The Open race will feature an on water start – will be 2 laps of the course and will finish on the beach.
The Elite Race will have a beach start – will be 4 laps – with a short beach run between each lap and will also have a beach finish.
All Elite competitors will have to supply one volunteer “Board Turner”. It will be this persons job to turn the competitors board around and have it ready for them when the come back from the short run.
Classes for both races are as follows:
Surfboard – typical surfboard shape board – any length.
Inflatable – any inflatable SUP – any length.
Stock Race board – any “pointy” style race or touring board – 12’6″ and under.
Open Race board – any “pointy” style race or touring board – over 12’6″ in length
We have a few boards left from last season.
These will be on sale until May 15, 2013. After that they will be back to regular price.

The Easy Rider will be hosting another introductory Stand Up Paddleboad Demo on Tuesday, May 14 in the Water Park at West Edmonton Mall.
**NOTE** This will be our last Indoor Demo until next January.

The cost is $10. per person and all money is donated to a local charity.
The demo includes boards and paddles and runs from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM
